Ty McKinnie is an American singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist from Atlanta, Georgia. He started writing music in college, uploaded songs to SoundCloud, and posted covers on YouTube. Ty moved to New York City to pursue his singing career and enrolled in NYU’s music business program. Moving to New York wasn’t easy. As adversities struck, songwriting music became more of a therapeutic escape, resulting into two EPs that spawned his signature style with hit songs such as “Mutual” and “Chill.” Ty also worked on his live chops by performing in iconic venues around New York City (Rockwood Music Hall, the Cutting Room, etc).

Atlantic Avenue will be beaming with pride for the first ever “Pride on Atlantic Ave” event. The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation, in collaboration with Brooklyn Pride, is excited to launch this colorful celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community on Sunday, June 13, 12-5pm with food, drinks, shopping and music. Start your celebration with a week of Brooklyn Pride events leading up to their 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, June 12th. 

Then join us on Brooklyn’s proudest historic avenue, from the Waterfront to Fourth Avenue. Pride month is a vibrant, rainbow-filled recognition of the LGBTQIA+ community and the fight for equal rights. “Pride on Atlantic Ave” will celebrate the community and how much has been accomplished. 

Local Atlantic Avenue businesses will show their support for pride with festively, rainbow decorated windows and outdoor dining fences. There will be promotions, discounts, art exhibitions and special offers. Local bars will celebrate with specially created pride cocktails for attendees to enjoy. Everyone is encouraged to come and show their pride with creative outfits, hair, and accessories. Then to post their photos taken that day in front of an Atlantic Avenue business to Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #AtlanticAvenuePride for a chance to be declared the ‘Best Pride Ambassador’ and awarded a prize.There will also be music along the Avenue to welcome and entertain event goers as they shop, dine and stroll.

Genna Ayres is a behavioral health provider who strives to create safe and affirming spaces in medical and mental health care for LGBTQ people. Since graduating from Columbia with a masters in social work and a masters in public health, Genna has spent most of their therapy career working in an integrated care setting in community health centers where they work to increase access to mental health care and support medical providers in caring for LGBTQ folks and folks with mental health struggles. Genna spends a lot of their time thinking about ways to make LGBTQ folks feel seen and supported in the health care system. When not working, Genna can be found spending time with their family and community, roller skating, and in the sunshine.

Quanita Hailey is an alum of Mount Holyoke college and Union Theological Seminary where she received her Masters of Divinity with a focus in Womanist Queer Ethics. Lovingly, nick-named Q, she currently serves as a Staff Chaplain at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist hospital. She is the creator of the Women of Color Trailblazers Leadership Conference at Mount Holyoke College. Q is a lover of her family and a peer advocate. She can be found dreaming up new creative convening ideas for FreeXone 4 Us, a free QTPOC communal space that seeks to evoke the sacred and promote healing in NYC.
