Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, this eight-piece group has come together to express their love of music, old and new, in a way that adds a unique flavor to the musical melting pot of their hometown. After releasing their debut album, State of Nine, in 2019, their latest singles illustrate their sonic evolution as they embark on their second album.

Ty McKinnie is an American singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist from Atlanta, Georgia. He started writing music in college, uploaded songs to SoundCloud, and posted covers on YouTube. Ty moved to New York City to pursue his singing career and enrolled in NYU’s music business program. Moving to New York wasn’t easy. As adversities struck, songwriting music became more of a therapeutic escape, resulting into two EPs that spawned his signature style with hit songs such as “Mutual” and “Chill.” Ty also worked on his live chops by performing in iconic venues around New York City (Rockwood Music Hall, the Cutting Room, etc).

Ships in the Night is songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Alethea Leventhal.
